Organic Farming Can Be Very Lucrative

Eating well and eating healthy is something we used to take for granted. Nowadays, with more diseases and infirmities plaguing humanity, along with the ever-increasing difficulty of making a decent living in the present economy, a healthy food lifestyle has become somewhat of a luxury. This is far from an ideal situation; good food and good health are things every human being should have, from the humblest of people to the most wealthy and important among us.

It disheartens me to think that only those with bigger paychecks can even hope to afford to buy clean and healthy food. Mass-produced junk that passes for food appears to be cheaper and more readily available, but the ramifications to one’s health from consuming these foods will surely more than make up for the apparent cheapness.

This is why I espouse the idea that more people (even city dwellers) should participate in the business of growing and selling organically and humanely grown livestock and produce. The benefits of such an undertaking will be almost immediate in its manifestation, and I’ll give you, the reader, a few of those positive effects in the hopes of encouraging you to consider (Read More....)

What’s Stopping You from Growing Your Own Food?

Now, more than ever, the news is full of health scares and epidemics caused in no small part by the quantity-over-quality approach to food production, and it’s happening all over the world. China might be the foremost violator of health standards, but our country is just as at fault, feeding our citizens with food that is inherently unhealthy for us.

Many of us have already been beating the drums against eating factory-farmed and genetically tweaked foods, but the majority would rather cover their ears and keep consuming the more accessible, bigger, allegedly more flavorful stuff that lines our grocery shelves.

The result? Obesity, diseases, and infirmities of all sorts manifesting in us. Worse, our children just as badly affected. Why do we do this to ourselves? (Read More....)

Why Local Restaurants Are Ideal When Eating Out

Some people cannot resist certain restaurants because they serve great food. Famous chefs from all over the world are preparing great cuisines for some of the top restaurants all around the world. Being a chef today is not only prestigious but those who can distinguish themselves above their competition may also make a lucrative amount for their efforts.

With that being said, even the best local restaurants are looking for people who have been trained in some of the best culinary schools. This means everyone can prepare their taste buds for luxurious appetizers, astounding entrees and awesome deserts. Presently, the preparations for these foods are being made with the health conscious people in mind. However, just because a dish is healthy, it does not mean the food is not great. So, eating out today in local restaurants is ideal for many. In fact, people go to their local restaurants for various reasons. Listed below are two top reasons why eating at local restaurants is ideal:

Dieters Can Choose Meals According to Specific Diet Plans

In the past, most dieters would not think about going to a restaurant to eat because they had to watch their calories. In essence, they would have to turn down lunch and dinner dates, since they did not want to break their diet. As a general rule, eating out in restaurants was considered to (Read More....)

The Benefits Of Organic Meat

Understanding the difference between organic meat and non-organic meat is imperative for making informed decisions about the foods we eat.

Organic animals are not allowed to be given antibiotics, any genetically engineered drugs, or bovine human growth hormone (rbGH), a drug that artificially increases milk production in cattle.

Over half of the antibiotics fed to mass-produced farm animals, including chickens, are the same ones prescribed to human beings. It has been well publicized lately in the media that the overuse of antibiotics is leading to super strains of bacteria that are growing resistant to antibiotics. This is creating a wide opening for human diseases that potentially won’t be helped with the antibiotics currently available.

Organically raised animals are not allowed to eat genetically modified foods

.GMOs are genetically modified organisms whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. For example, scientists have been able to splice fish genes into tomatoes, producing the trait of a more freeze-resistant tomato. While this may sound good in theory, virtually nothing is known of the consequences of these laboratory creations. In addition to not being fed GMOs, an animal that is certified as organic cannot itself have had its genes modified in any way. By eating 100 (Read More....)

Don't Bring “The Outside World” With You

Authored By Surviving Survivalism

Many people we’ve met who claim they want the survivalist lifestyle are in complete shock when they come to realize that this isn’t suburbia with different scenery.  It requires a complete change from most peoples’ current lifestyle and mindset.

Life in the wilderness is closely aligned with nature, the direct opposite of what we have been conditioned to accept as urban/suburban life.  If you live in an air conditioned home, work in an air-conditioned office, drive in an air conditioned car, with artificial lights all around…it would be hard to more disconnected from nature than you are right now.

Living in your survivalist retreat doesn’t mean you just pick up your whole suburban life and move it to a different location.  If you need to hang on to having a supermarket down the block, don’t move from where you are. If your retreat is in the desert and you really want to have a lawn, don’t move from where you are.  If you can’t start the day without your economy (Read More....)

Mackenzie Hamilton – China Vogue August 2007

Whether you’ve just started back to college or university for fall, or you know someone who is, the time has come to stock up on all the supplies every student will need to get through another academic year. But, before heading out and picking up just any old school and home products, take a second to fill your shopping list with organic, environmentally friendly, recycled or re-used items that will be better for both you and the environment. Check out some of these must-have green items for going back to school the healthy way:

1. A Non-BPA Thermos.

It’s not uncommon to walk across a college campus and see long, plastic thermoses everywhere you go. If you are looking for your own thermos, make sure to find one that is free of BPA, a hormone-disrupting chemical commonly found in many plastics. In fact, it’s much better for the environment in general to buy a rust-resistant metal thermos instead of plastic.

2. Coconut Oil.

Coconut oil is a natural wonder child. It can be used for cooking. You can use it all over your body as a (Read More....)
